Netherlands Pledges €1.2 Billion Aid to Ukraine During Zelenskyy’s Hague Visit

Date:

The Netherlands has pledged a significant financial aid package to Ukraine, totaling €1.2 billion over the next three years, as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy visits The Hague. This announcement comes amid ongoing discussions between Zelenskyy and Dutch Prime Minister Rob Jetten, along with other senior officials, to bolster support for Ukraine during its conflict with Russia.

During his visit, President Zelenskyy is set to engage in talks with Prime Minister Jetten, Defence Minister Dilan Yeşilgöz, and Foreign Minister Tom Berendsen. Additionally, he will attend a reception hosted by King Willem-Alexander. These meetings underscore the diplomatic and financial backing the Netherlands continues to provide to Ukraine.

Part of the assistance package includes €40 million earmarked for the repair of Ukrainian energy infrastructure, which has been damaged by Russian military strikes. This initiative is particularly vital as Ukraine braces for the winter season. Furthermore, the Dutch government plans to spend €55 million on purchasing generators, transformers, compressors, and other essential equipment from Dutch companies, which will be delivered to Ukraine.

In total, the Dutch government has allocated €136 million for measures related to supporting Ukrainian infrastructure and has increased export credit insurance to mitigate financial risks for companies supplying equipment to the war-affected country. These steps highlight the Netherlands’ commitment to aiding Ukraine in maintaining its infrastructure and economy during the ongoing conflict.

This visit by Zelenskyy follows Prime Minister Jetten’s trip to Kyiv in March, shortly after the new Dutch government assumed office, indicating a continued focus on sustaining international support for Ukraine. The discussions between the leaders are part of broader international efforts to assess war-related damages and establish mechanisms for compensation.
