Sweden’s Economic Growth Slows to 0.4% in Q3 Amid September Contraction

Date:

Sweden’s economic growth experienced a slowdown in the third quarter of the year, with the country’s GDP increasing by just 0.4% compared to the previous quarter, as reported by Statistics Sweden. This deceleration is attributed to a contraction in the economy during the month of September, which marked a weakening in economic momentum as the quarter concluded.

Despite the downturn in September, August’s robust economic performance contributed positively to the overall quarterly expansion. Economist Neda Shahbazi highlighted that the strong growth recorded in August helped cushion the impact of the subsequent contraction, although it was insufficient to sustain the previous pace of growth.

Comparing year-on-year data, Sweden’s GDP in the third quarter of this year was still 2.8% higher than the same period last year. This indicates that while there was a recent decline, the economy remains larger than it was a year ago, suggesting some resilience amid the fluctuations.
