In response to ongoing humanitarian challenges in Palestine, Norway has pledged an additional 125 million Norwegian kroner ($13.2 million) in aid. This support will be channeled through the United Nations and the World Bank, focusing on bolstering the Palestinian public sector amidst the difficult conditions exacerbated by the Gaza conflict.
Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide emphasized the urgent need for continued international assistance, citing the severe impact of the Gaza war, which has led to limited access to essential resources such as food, clean water, electricity, and healthcare. Eide called for enhanced early-recovery efforts and improved humanitarian access to affected regions.
In addition to financial aid, Norway is advocating for the implementation of a 20-point peace plan adopted by the UN Security Council. Eide highlighted the importance of Palestinian leadership in reconstruction efforts to ensure effective recovery and stability.
Norway has reiterated its opposition to Israel’s settlement activities in the West Bank, pointing out that the expansion of settlements, settler attacks, and movement restrictions on Palestinians are heightening insecurity and complicating the pursuit of a political resolution.
This latest financial commitment is part of Norway’s broader assistance to Palestine, which totals around 1 billion Norwegian kroner for the year. The aid aims to alleviate the pressing humanitarian needs and contribute to long-term peace and development in the region.
