Trump Cites “Hiroshima, Nagasaki” to Explain Iran War End

Date:

President Donald Trump controversially invoked the examples of Hiroshima and Nagasaki on Wednesday to explain how US strikes on Iranian nuclear sites ended the 12-day Iran-Israel war. He claimed these American actions were the definitive factor in halting hostilities.

Trump argued that the immense pressure on Iran, including the American military action, had effectively ended their pursuit of nuclear weapons. He countered intelligence reports indicating a limited impact, asserting that Iran’s nuclear facilities were entirely destroyed.

The conflict commenced with Israel’s bombing of Iranian nuclear facilities, citing concerns about nuclear proliferation. Iran consistently denied these claims, asserting its nuclear program was for peaceful purposes. The hostilities resulted in considerable damage and casualties.

A ceasefire, reportedly brokered by Trump, was holding as of Wednesday. Trump’s controversial comparison has drawn attention to the historical weight he places on his military interventions.
