Trump Highlights Versailles’ Economic Role at Macron’s Post-G7 Business Dinner

Date:

Following the G7 summit, U.S. President Donald Trump joined French President Emmanuel Macron and First Lady Brigitte Macron for a diplomatic dinner at the Palace of Versailles. This gathering was designed to reinforce the relationship between the United States and Europe. Upon his arrival at the iconic palace near Paris, Trump expressed his admiration for the historic site, lauding Versailles as “beautiful” and “the real deal,” and he noted his appreciation for its grandeur, calling it “maybe the most beautiful of all.” Trump accepted the invitation to the dinner, citing his interest in “beautiful places.”

The French president and his wife welcomed Trump on the palace steps, where they posed for photographs before heading inside for the formal dinner. The Palace of Versailles, once the royal residence of Louis XIV, has been a prominent setting for significant diplomatic events hosted by French presidents. The choice of venue underscores France’s historical and ongoing role in global diplomacy.

This meeting took place amidst a backdrop of complex relations between the U.S. and its European allies. Despite ongoing disagreements over international conflicts, trade policies, and security issues, both sides characterized the G7 discussions as productive, with particular focus on shared concerns about international stability.

Originally conceived as a symbol of French royal authority, Versailles continues to play a pivotal role in diplomacy, reflecting France’s enduring efforts to assert its influence on the global stage. The dinner at Versailles served not only as a gesture of goodwill but also as an opportunity for the leaders to engage in discussions aimed at bridging gaps in U.S.–Europe relations.
