Heatwave Boosts Energy Demand Ahead of Storms in Southern Netherlands

Date:

Residents and visitors in the Netherlands can expect a stretch of hot and sunny weather leading into the weekend, with forecasts predicting temperatures soaring above 30°C in many inland areas by Friday. This warm spell will begin on Thursday, bringing widespread sunshine and temperatures peaking at 27°C. By the time Friday arrives, the heat is expected to intensify in inland regions, where temperatures could climb as high as 33°C. However, coastal areas will remain cooler due to a refreshing sea breeze from the west.

While the warm weather is set to dominate the start of the weekend, meteorologists have cautioned that conditions could shift dramatically later on Friday. Thunderstorms are anticipated to develop in the southern regions of the country, bringing with them the potential for heavy rain, hail, and strong gusty winds. In response to this weather forecast, a yellow weather warning has been issued starting from 5 p.m. for the provinces of Noord-Brabant, Gelderland, and Limburg, alerting residents to the possibility of severe thunderstorms.

Looking ahead to Saturday, the summery conditions are expected to persist in inland areas, where temperatures will range from 25°C to 28°C. However, those planning to spend time at the beach or along the coast should anticipate cooler weather. As the weekend progresses, cloud cover is predicted to increase on Sunday, which may bring scattered showers.

The weather outlook for the following week suggests that more unsettled conditions are on the horizon. Rain and showers are expected to become more frequent as the week unfolds, accompanied by a noticeable drop in temperatures. Daytime highs are forecast to fall below 20°C, marking a significant shift from the warm conditions experienced in the preceding days.
