Dutch, Belgian Bans on Settlement Goods Impact Israeli Trade, Qatar Observes.

Date:

Qatar has lauded the recent decisions by the Netherlands and Belgium to prohibit the importation of goods from Israeli settlements, viewing this as a significant move towards addressing the issue of settlement activities in the occupied Palestinian territories. This measure aligns with efforts to curb settlement expansion, which is considered to contravene international law and United Nations Security Council Resolution 2334.

The Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement expressing hope that more nations will follow the example set by the Netherlands and Belgium. They emphasized the importance of the international community fulfilling its legal and moral obligations by pressuring Israel to cease settlement activities in these territories.

In its statement, Qatar reiterated its enduring commitment to the Palestinian cause. It emphasized its support for a two-state solution, envisioning the establishment of a future independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, based on the 1967 borders.

These developments underscore Qatar’s long-standing position on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, reflecting its dedication to advancing peace efforts and international law compliance in the region. The ministry’s remarks highlight the importance of global collaboration in resolving the Israeli-Palestinian impasse and promoting a peaceful resolution that respects the rights and aspirations of the Palestinian people.
