Kyiv faced a significant missile and drone assault by Russian forces early Monday, leaving at least nine dead and injuring 46 others, including five children, as reported by Ukrainian officials. Rescue operations are ongoing, and authorities caution that the number of casualties could increase as the situation develops.
The nighttime attack resulted in substantial damage to residential areas across Ukraine’s capital, with emergency services reporting that at least 15 apartment buildings were either damaged or destroyed. Among the affected structures was a nine-story residential building in Kyiv’s Podilskyi district, where rescue teams are actively working to extract individuals trapped beneath the debris.
In addition to the casualties in Kyiv, another individual was killed in the Bucha district, located northwest of the city. The Russian Defense Ministry acknowledged the extensive strike, describing it as a “massive” operation involving long-range missiles and drones aimed at military, energy, and airfield infrastructure in Kyiv and other regions across Ukraine.
This attack follows closely on the heels of another significant Russian offensive that resulted in at least 27 fatalities in Kyiv, marking one of the year’s deadliest incidents in the city. The recent escalation in violence underscores the ongoing conflict’s intensity and the precarious situation facing the Ukrainian capital.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy addressed the ongoing hostilities around the strategically important town of Kostyantynivka in the Donetsk region. He refuted Russian assertions that the town had been captured, emphasizing the continuing resistance by Ukrainian forces in the area.
